In a recent viral Instagram video, Pastor Bolaji Idowu, founder of Harvesters International Christian Centre in Lagos, shared a thought-provoking message advising men on the importance of financial self-sufficiency before marriage.
His message, which urged men to “marry within their pocket size,” criticized those who prioritize financial dependency over personal development.
Pastor Idowu emphasized that relying on a partner’s wealth for security reflects a "consumer mentality" and lacks wisdom and self-respect. He urged men to cultivate their financial independence as part of their growth and readiness for marriage.
Bolaji Idowu, The clergyman advises men to make sure they marry ladies who are within their means.
During a recent sermon at his church, the clergyman said:
"Date your pocket size, my brother." Financially, there are females your size. Locate them and go on a date. Culturally, you don't find those girls appealing, which is why you aren't dating them. You won't be at ease if you don't date someone who is as wealthy as you. You'll suffer a heart attack. According to culture, getting married must be a lavish affair; "it is going to be a bill." You don't even need a wedding gown, so can I even help you?
